About the army's logistics base

The Logistics Base of the Swiss Armed Forces (LBA) is the backbone of the Swiss Armed Forces logistics supply. With around 3'000 civilian employees and an additional 12'000 militia members, it provides all logistical services for troops and infrastructure, from vehicles and ammunition to catering and textiles. The diversity within the organization is reflected in over 300 different professional groups.

The communication channel - LOG-VISION

The aim of the LOG-VISION project is to create an independent, modern platform on which employees from different areas of the LBA can actively participate in internal communication. The aim is not only to share the latest information about LBA, but also to obtain feedback, encourage participation in surveys and share experiences from LBA's fields of activity. Contributions and stories from everyday working life can be recorded and published as text or in video form in a decentralized, independent and intuitive way. With LOG-VISION, a platform has been created that does justice to this complexity and at the same time strengthens dialogue within the organization.

Implementation with Livingdocs

The content management system (CMS) Livingdocs was selected in 2022 as the basis for all federal government and federal administration websites and is now one of the federal government's standard ICT services. It is particularly suitable for collaborative work and the structured creation of digital content.

Livingdocs is provided by the Federal Office of Information Technology and Telecommunications (FOITT) - either as a ready-made website in the CI/CD of the Confederation or as a "content only" variant, in which only the data from Livingdocs is retrieved. LOG-VISION was realized in this content-only version. Instead of the standardized CI/CD of the Confederation, an individual front end was developed that is visually based on armee.ch, but is fully tailored to the requirements of the LBA. The content is retrieved via the Livingsdocs API and displayed in its own web design. The focus is on accessibility, a clear structure and ease of use.

Patrik Falk Patrik Falk

«With LOG-VISION, we partnered with Apps with love to implement a web-based solution using Livingdocs – the standard web service of the Swiss federal administration – for the very first time. I’m impressed by how quickly Apps with love got up to speed with the new CMS and how forward-thinking their feature development has been. As with previous projects we've worked on together, we learned a lot from each other – and log-vision.ch is the result of a truly great collaboration.»

What the LOG-VISION platform can do

The platform enables a content structure. Articles are provided with specific tags that enable both automatic categorization and targeted SEO optimization. Icons of the LBA or army in the content overview visualize the classification according to organizational unit, content type or strategic area. The content of the website can be searched using a powerful full-text search and filtered according to various criteria if required.

The navigation and page structure can be fully customized in the CMS. The homepage can be customized with elements such as a full-screen video. Forms, which can be used to make contact, for example, are seamlessly integrated and forward enquiries to email addresses stored in the CMS.

Editorial and functional features at a glance

  • Tag-based content control with metadata for icons and filter functions

  • Full-text search that delivers paginated and tag-filtered results

  • Contact forms that are maintained directly in the CMS

  • Multilingualism & translation management via Loco

  • Accessibility, already taken into account in design and development

  • Performant caching - content is only reloaded when CMS changes are made

  • Configurable content layouts, dashboards and Kanban boards for the editorial team

Our deep integration with the Livingdocs API, the clean modelling of content types and the use of the CMS as a genuine editorial tool are proof of this: We don't just know Livingdocs in theory, we know how to use it to realize projects cleanly and practically.

Web Development
We don't know exactly what Alessandro listens to day in, day out - but his headphones or what he plays on them seem to give him the energy to realise web front-ends of all kinds - as long as he doesn't have to deal too much with PHP, which he doesn't like. He grew up in Basel but now lives in his adopted home of Bern.

Concept & Design
He knows every shortcut and every Easteregg, there's not a single software tool that he hasn't already tested and sworn at. The clear winner: Notion. He uses it to work in such a structured way that, in addition to conceptualizing, designing and developing websites, he has time to ask the really important questions in life. For example, who tops the own goal statistics in table soccer.

Quality Assurance
He used to sweep his opponents off the court in tennis, today he tests our software with the same precision. As Swiss vice-champion in the (aptly named) game «Mindbug», he has a knack for strategic moves, good timing and attentively studying his opponent. Of course he also uses these skills to test the quality of our projects. He skillfully defeats bugs and ensures that our developments move on to the next round without errors.
